Do you ever feel like your lipstick just doesn’t go on right? Before you take another step towards the trash can, let’s talk about lip care. If you’re not taking care of your lips, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Plump lips are all the rage! The simple step of keeping them exfoliated and hydrated means you can probably skip the needless and filler and love the lips you were given.
I do this process about twice a week, or as needed and it makes all the difference! Especially on the days I want to wear a matte lip, exfoliating is a must. Matte anything amplifies any snags and dead skin you might have, so it’s important to prime and prep your lips beforehand.
Exfoliate Away
My favorite lip exfoliator is from Lush cosmetics, but I’ll link a few good ones for you. If you’re on a budget or you’re in a pinch, take your toothbrush and lightly scrub at your lips in the same circular motions. Now that you got all the dead and flakey skins off, next comes the moisture!
Moroccan Magic Lipbalm Review
I want to preface this by saying that I am picky about my lip balm. Many of them give me little pimples around my lip line with extended use so I have to be careful what I use. I steer clear of anything that makes it look like I have a cold sore thank you very much. I generally like Burt’s Bees but it tends to be a little on the waxy side. I don’t feel like it actually moisturizes my lips, it just seals them.
Here’s where the magic comes in. The wonderful team at Moroccan Magic reached out to me and sent me a few of their lip balms and let me say I’m in love! It’s super lightweight and it definitely hydrates my lips. I love using it morning and night. If you’ve never tried keeping lip balm by your bed and putting it on at night you’re missing out. Nothing beats the feeling of waking up with plump lips!
They were already available at drugstores and Walmart around the states, but they just launched in everyone’s favorite place to spend money and waste time….TARGET! The flavors/scent options you get are rose (LOVE), peppermint eucalyptus (love this in the morning or night), coconut almond (I keep this in my beach or pool bag), and lavender vanilla (my mom snagged this one from me).
So to get back to the process of prepping your lips – after exfoliation, I apply this lip balm and go about doing the rest of my makeup. I like to let it sink in before applying liquid lipsticks, because I don’t want them slipping around. I will then dab any excess when it comes time to apply my color for the day. That’s pretty much it! Stay tuned for my post on the best lip shades for fall (and honestly year round.) I’m bringing you swatches and suggestions for the best skin tones for each shade so you can get it right the first time.
