The Weekend
Welcome to Florida, where you have to ignore normal seasonal style rules because of the inconsistent weather. We’re in the “layering” season [I bet you didn’t know that was a season]. This is where you have to dress in layers because it’s cold in the morning, but by afternoon you’re sweating. Saturday I was under the weather so I spend the day entirely in bed with some tea while I alternated between “Fixer Upper” and “Say Yes to the Dress”. [Not a bad day]. Sunday I decided to venture out as it was a beautiful day. During the past two weeks I’ve worn various different blue and white striped shirts [who knew I had that many!].
I’m totally ready for spring colors! I’m sick of my current workwear choices based on the fact that it’s still “winter”. I tend to gravitate towards neutrals [specifically grays] for my work attire. Now that its nearing the end of the season all the neutrals are bringing me down! Soon I’m going to break down and ignore seasonal style trends and bring out the pops of color! All these circumstances led me to today’s outfit.
Steal My Style
My top is about a year old – it’s a Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply boyfriend style button up. I couldn’t find the exact one anymore, but I linked a similar one. I left the bottom button undone and tied it together to add a little something extra. It also helps show off my belt. I’ll admit, my inspiration for this look was from a recent commercial with Jennifer Aniston…She even adds a scarf to it. I think it’s a great effortlessly put together look [but Florida is too warm for the scarf already]. If you ever find any of these boyfriend shirts by Denim & Supply scoop them up! They’re really thin and breathable without being too sheer.
I also couldn’t find my exact pants [I’ve had them for years]. I linked some from Free People that are super popular right now and come in all different colors. Mine were a ripped boyfriend style, but find what works best for you. The Free People ones are soft, stretchy, and all you’ll ever want in denim. This shirt would also look good front-tucked in [or entirely tucked].
My belt is 1” Tory Burch reversible in tan and black. This was a splurge item about a year ago. I love the way it looks, but the belt is just that – for looks. If you expect it to hold up your pants, it will scrunch the back and end up marking up the back of the belt. [If you’re curvy like me you understand the struggle of butt to waist ratio in pants]. On the tan side it’s a problem, but on the black side you won’t notice. When I buy things that are expensive, I unreasonably expect them to never show signs of wear.
My shoes are also Tory Burch and they’re called the “Minnie Flats”. They fold up in half which is great for on the go if you want to pack them as a backup shoe. They are an optimal backup shoe, because they’re extremely comfortable! The leather feels like butter and it only took me one day to break them in! The back where it hits the heel is a perfect elastic – not too tight, not too lose. This is the “Goldilocks” of ballet flats. And I’ve have SUCH a hard time finding comfortable flats. I plan to get them in black now!
For makeup I’ve wearing the “Just Peachy” Palette from my Favorite Everyday Eyeshadow Palettes post.
