Long time no see! I’m sorry I’ve been so MIA. If you follow me on instagram (I’ve been pretty much missing there too), but I hinted a few times in stories that I’m moving! Yes that’s right, I’m flying the coop.
Needless to say I’m beyond excited to design my own space, but this also means I’m pretty much starting from scratch. Daunting as it is, I’ve spent the last few months pacing myself with buying everything I’ll need. Of course this means hours on Pinterest trying to nail down what I want my personal style to be. That and spending my weekend mornings rewatching my favorite episodes of fixer upper…I’m sure many of you would love the chance to start over and jump in with both feet on the latest styles. If this is you, hopefully you can live through me and find some favorite pieces to add to your own home.
Buried in Boxes
I’m pretty sure I owe the UPS man a plate of cookies at this point. He has to know that he’s gonna stop at my house at least once a week. Thank goodness for online shopping! I’ve been able to catch sales and order sporadically, but now one room of the house is full of boxes. Let me tell you, I’ll be able to make a killer fort when I’m done though!
I already have all my bedroom furniture, so there will be very little change, other than a few things here and there. I’ve never really shown my room though, so I’m planning to do a post of it, and all the other rooms one by one. That means get yourself ready for an apartment tour in the coming months!
My style is somewhere between rustic / coastal / modern farmhouse. I guess I like them all and don’t want to choose! Really the only coastal part of it is that I love blues, so there may be some blue accents. If you’d like a more in depth breakdown of all these styles – check out my previous posts. Each word is linked with the post on that style! Basically, it’s a whole lotta neutrals mixed with wood and metal elements. Here we go!
Farmhouse Living Room Haul
Let’s start with the living room, because I’ve had to start completely from scratch for this. I found my major furniture pieces from Ashley Furniture. They have a great selection when it comes to farmhouse style, and the lady at our showroom was kind enough to rearrange some items so I could see it all together and customize my look. I selected this couch, along with this gorgeous round coffee table, and this end table. The tables weren’t actually part of the same “family” name but they went together perfectly! I just wasn’t onboard with having a round coffee table and a round end table. Especially because I went in thinking I wanted rectangle everything.
I also snagged this modern shaggy rug from Target on sale. Kirklands was having a big sale on all farmhouse style items so I grabbed this modern table lamp (which is on clearance right now!!) along with this lattice wall arch accent. Originally I was going to put this above my couch, but I may change my mind about all of that and place it in the entryway.
I’m still on the hunt for the perfect bar cart to complete the room. I’ll be moving one of my bedroom furniture pieces that works as a media chest into the living room to hold the TV, so I didn’t need to purchase anything there. I’ll also need to purchase curtains for the sliding door in my living room, but I’m holding off until I see the room come together.
Farmhouse Kitchen Haul
I’m a big collector of mugs. There’s no reasoning to the style I like, it just has to speak to me. Because of this, I wanted to display them in all their glory as opposed to hiding them in the cabinet. Pottery barn came through with this large mug wall rack. Honestly, I’m probably most existed for this piece. Instagram will see it first when it’s completed!
I’ve decided to go for the good ole mason jars for my drinking glasses. They’re so versatile and with the price, they can’t be beat. For my bar cart I found some unique glasses that are similar to a mason jar, plus some very basic and traditional old fashioned glasses. I also want to add some cute paper straws to display on the bar cart. I picked these up from HomeGoods so I won’t be able to link them, but i’ll be sure to do a post of my bar cart styling.
Of course the Magnolia Hearth & Home collection at target is a favorite, and I found these salt and pepper containers that I love. The salt container is sold out online but you can still find them in stores. I got a matching stone water pitcher and cooking utensil container for all my spatulas and spoons.
Kitchen Organization
I told myself that since I’m starting from scratch I wanted to have Pinterest perfect level of organization for my pantry. That means ordering those awesome OXO pop containers so everything matches and stays fresh. These containers are so highly rated plus they’re on sale right now through the link! My pantry and fridge are going to be a source of happiness (and not just because the food lives there…) For my fridge and cooked food storage I love the Rubbermaid Brilliance line. The sizing is perfect and they fit perfectly in my lunchbox for the workweek. I suggest buying them in a set to start with to save money. Then you can fill in whatever pieces you use most separately as needed.
I still need to measure and order drawer dividers, but that’s not exactly the most “fun” organization task so that one is getting procrastinated. It’s always funny how everyone has that task we don’t like to do.
